What’s Your Marketing Tactic?

We’ve talked about the power of word-of-mouth marketing before, and truly believe in it. This is because the person who really needs your service, uses it, loves the work done (only if you’re good at your job, of course), and then refers it to anyone who listens.

Not to disregard direct mail ads, publicity, and advertising (they have their place), and cold calling (not sure if this one works much), but they are definitely the least effective according to the book Managing the Professional Service Firm by David Maister. He lists seminars, speeches, and articles in trade press as first tier, and networking in the second tier.

I Need To Hire, What Do I Write In The Job Ad?

Have you seen job ads that make you wonder if the company has a clue in running a business? Ads that make grammar and spelling mistakes; those that expand so much they are three pages long, or ones that have only two sentences.

The appropriately worded job description will mean the difference between hiring the right candidate and the dud. To separate these audiences, you need to make sure your description states exactly what the job is and pays. See below for a list of specifics to consider:

I Had Lunch With Peter Legge, Co-Founder and CEO of Canada Wide Media!

To follow the last blog about the Vancouver Board of Trade’s luncheon, where Sir Richard Branson gave an inspirational talk, this time I set up a personal luncheon with Peter Legge, Co-Founder and CEO of Canada Wide Media.

Wow, where to start; I guess at the top—I asked for the meeting and Peter Legge agreed! Many business owners either don’t think about connecting with, or are afraid to approach, successful business people for advice and to build business relationships; so, it makes me feel proud for having tried and succeeded. It should be said though; very influential business people don’t often have the time to meet with any small business that requests a meeting. This is why the meeting I was able to set up with Peter Legg is to me a chance of a lifetime; a confirmation that my efforts are bringing about success in my business, FACETS Business Solutions.

I Had Lunch With Virgin Mogul Sir Richard Branson!

Get On Board: A Conversation With Richard Branson was a luncheon held on May 25 at the Vancouver Board of Trade. I, Monika Kelly, was there! Yes, I’m still reeling from the experience, over two months later!

There was nervous excitement all around me as I entered the Vancouver Convention Centre among hundreds of other attendees, and I felt that I was most excited of them all. I knew that it was going to be a most inspirational event, and if you know me, you know that I gravitate to everything inspirational. My BNI colleagues and I had booked a table for us to see the charismatic speaker and businessman give us his view of life and business, and he did.

Expert Bookkeeping Saves You Money

If you’re a small business owner, we know you don’t have much leeway with your finances (we know, because we are one.) Funds are strictly allocated, and purchases are cautiously evaluated. But, all this is well and good until you make mistakes on your financial ledger—that’ll cost you big! Here are a few ways of making sure you don’t make regular mistakes in your bookkeeping:
