November is Financial Literacy Month!

Did you know that November is Financial Literacy Month in Canada? Well, it is – see here financialliteracymonth.ca! Created and put on by the Financial Literacy Action Group (FLAG), a coalition of seven non-profit organizations including ABC Life Literacy Canada, Canadian Foundation of Economic Education (CFEE), Credit Canada, Financial Planning Standards Canada (FPSC), Investor Education Fund (IEF), Junior Achievement (JA), and Social and Enterprise Development Initiatives. Working with the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (www.fcac-acfc.gc.ca), they put on activities and events throughout the month of November to promote financial literacy for Canadian citizens.

Being able to make good financial decisions keeps us fed, clothed, and housed. Without this knowledge, we will be out on the street, and our businesses will fail – nobody wants to be homeless or in debt. Coming from a business services point of view, we’re excited about the educational workshops such as the online interactive tool to learn about mortgages at www.mortgageconsumer.ca, put on by the Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals (CAAMP).

Because this is a nation-wide awareness agenda, there are many financial services in every province offering their expertise. So, if you can’t find a workshop or educational event you’re looking for, we are here to help. We’ve got a list of business and financial services experts that offer their advice free of charge (nothing is free these days, so this is a good opportunity to take advantage of). Need to know about mortgages locally, as in, Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Richmond, etc., the lower mainland? Call Isabelle Bertrand, Independent Mortgage Broker at Mortgage Alliance West. Don’t know much about the taxes you must give to the government? Call Silvano Bolognese, a very friendly GGA. If you need information about life and critical illness insurance, call John Lam of Investor’s Group, and if you want to speak about creating a financial plan for retirement and investments call Kevin Girard of Investor’s Group.

This is a great time to examine your life and business finances even more closely, and how better to do that than by asking professionals like us all your financial questions. It doesn’t cost you anything to get questions answered, so go ahead – we’re here to help.
